Islam

Written on June 24, 2010 – 3:27 pm | by year1

This week we began learning about the Muslim faith.

We looked at a special place of worship called a ‘mosque’. We all build one and took our own picture. Ask your child what their mosque looked like.

Some children also designed their own prayer mat. We were able to draw these outside pointing in the direction of Mecca, because this is the direction Muslims face when they pray.

Here is a website that you and your child may like to look at to learn more for our next lesson.

Our wonderful chefs in Year 1 have been cooking pizzas!

Can you tell your adult how you did this?
What ingredients did you use?
Can you name all the vegetables you used?

More importantly, was your pizza tasty?

Gorton Market

Written on May 22, 2010 – 10:25 am | by year1

This week we went to Gorton Market (Wednesday 19th May), for part of our C4C topic. All the children loved the experience and behaved well. They made the staff very proud!
Ask your child about the different shops they saw?
What pictures did they see on the mosaics?
What vegetables did they buy?
What did we make with the vegetables?

What free fruit did they shop owner give us?

In RE, we created Rangoli Patterns outside our classroom.
A Rangoli is a colourful design made on the floor near the entrance to a house to welcome guests. At Diwali, Hindus draw bright Rangoli patterns to encourage the goddess Lakshmi to enter their homes.
